Chairman of ENIT, Italy’s National Tourism Board
Giorgio Palmucci is one of the leading managers in Italy's tourism industry. He is currently chairman of ENIT, Italy’s national tourism board. Having gained many years’ experience as a manager of private companies, he was keen to take on a public role in the industry, and took up the challenge of heading ENIT. Since the 1990s, he has been at the forefront of the sector’s associative activities, as he wanted to play an active role in the development of tourism in Italy. The experience he gained at Confindustria Alberghi gave him a broad strategic vision, an ability to act across a range of sectors, and the precise timing typical of a managerial approach in terms of planning and operations. He entered the industry as a young man and immediately took on responsible roles at multinationals including Club Med, the world leader in holiday villages. His management skills were recognised immediately, and after only a year, he was promoted to general manager of Villaggi Italia, taking on operational responsibility for eight resorts. In time, he was appointed Club Med’s General Manager for Italy and Eastern Countries, and thus joined the General Management Committee for Europe. After Club Med, he was appointed CEO and general manager of Hotelturist SpA, a hotel chain operating in Italy under the TH Resorts brand, where he created the brand and overhauled the company organisation. He is a founding member of Assotour and Assotravel and member of the board of the Italian Association of Hotel Chains and ASTOI. When the Italian Association of Hotel Chains merged with Confindustria Alberghi, he was elected chairman of the main association representing 4- and 5-star hotels in Italy. He was appointed to the Governing Board with the creation of the National Convention Bureau, which was tasked with promoting the organisation of conventions and events in Italy. He has been vice-chairman of Federturismo of Confindustria. To promote investment in the hotel sector, he sits on the Advisory Board of the International Hotel Investment Forum, and played an active role in the creation of the virtual brand, Italia Hospitality, where the public and private sectors converge to bring together supply and demand in the hospitality industry. His professional career, a byword for pragmatism and passion, sets the path for the future development of tourism.
